Scottish Ice Skating Committee Launched

British Ice Skating are excited to announce the formation of the Scottish Ice Skating Committee, a new governance group that will spearhead the organisation’s work developing the sport of ice skating in Scotland.

Reporting to the BIS Board and supported by the work of the BIS staff, the committee will help deliver the BIS Strategy by providing leadership and guidance on key Scottish initiatives including the development of grassroots ice skating, competitions, and relationships with ice rinks in Scotland.

Membership of the committee will comprise BIS Board Director David Thomson along with BIS representatives and two appointed Scottish members. Applications for the two appointed positions are now open, so if you’re interested in supporting the development of ice skating in Scotland, find out more about the roles and how to apply at the bottom of this page!

The Committees goals will include increasing Scottish ice skating participation and establishing a Scottish Championships. This work will complement ongoing British Ice Skating development strategies but allow for a more tailored localised approach. Funding from Sport Scotland will further support the Committee’s aims, enabling additional investment into Scotland-specific initiatives.

Insights gained from the work piloted by the Committee will support British Ice Skating’s broader success, feeding into ongoing work in the other home nations and enabling the sharing of best practice and partnership opportunities that will benefit skaters across the country.

To support the work of the new Scottish Ice Skating Committee, a part-time position on the BIS team will also be open for applications shortly; the new Development Officer (Scotland) role will focus on the EDI, development and engagement goals specific to Scotland.

It provides a strong platform for collaboration, giving skaters, clubs, and rinks across Scotland a united voice and the support needed to grow participation and opportunity at every level. This is a proud step forward in strengthening the future of Scottish ice skating.”
