Milano Cortina 2026: Day 4 schedule (Tuesday 10 February) – Niall Treacy opens Team GB’s short track campaign

Day 4 is all about speed, tactics, and split-second decisions as short track speed skating arrives at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games - and Niall Treacy is first up for British Ice Skating in his men’s 1000m heats.

It’s also a big moment for the programme: this is the first short track event involving British Ice Skating at these Games, with Treacy flying the flag as Team GB’s sole short track representative in Milan.

Day 4 schedule (UK time / GMT) for Milano Cortina 2026

10:10am – Short Track Speed Skating | Men’s 1000m: Heats (Niall Treacy)

Niall Treacy: a proven threat in the 1000m

Treacy’s not just lining up for another Olympic start — he’s arriving in Milan with serious pedigree in this exact distance, after winning European silver in the men’s 1000m at the 2024 European Short Track Championships.

That medal was also highlighted as Britain’s first European Championships medal in the event since 2019 — a landmark moment and a real signal of what’s possible when the 1000m goes full chaos.

Since then, he’s backed it up with a World Tour bronze in the 1000m in Beijing, adding another major international podium to his record.

What to know about short track (and why the 1000m is pure drama)

Short track is raced head-to-head, with multiple skaters (often 4–6) battling around a tight 111.111m oval - which means position, timing, and nerve matter as much as raw speed.

The 1000m is the sweet spot: long enough for tactics to build, short enough for things to explode in a single lap — and every heat is a fight to stay in contention.
