Treacy and Green lead the way for British Royals in Montreal
The British Royals completed the second stop of the 2026/27 ISU Short Track World Tour in Montreal at the weekend, with Niall Treacy fighting his way into the men's 1500m semifinals and Annabelle Green reaching the quarterfinals of the women's 1000m.
It was a demanding weekend at the Maurice Richard Arena for a young team still building experience at this level, with the world's leading nations again setting a fast pace. But there were performances to build on as the team turns its attention to the Asian leg of the World Tour.
Treacy battles into the 1500m semifinals
Niall Treacy showed real fight in the 1500m. After missing out in his quarterfinal, he won both his repechage quarterfinal and his repechage semifinal to earn a place in Saturday's semifinals, finishing 20th overall.
He also won his 1000m heat to reach the quarterfinals on Sunday, going on to finish 17th, and won his preliminary heat in the 500m.

Green into the 1000m quarterfinals
Annabelle Green, Great Britain's only woman racing in Montreal, put together a strong run in the 1000m. She won her preliminary heat and finished second in her heat to reach the quarterfinals, finishing 16th overall.
She showed the same spirit in the 500m, winning her repechage quarterfinal and leading her repechage semifinal through the opening laps before her run came to an end.
Relay team set the early pace
Albie Barlow, Adam Hill, Niall Treacy and Willem Murray made up the men's 5000m relay team, who led their quarterfinal through the opening stages before finishing fourth, for 14th place overall.
More experience across the team
Willem Murray raced all three individual distances again, finishing second in his 1000m preliminary heat and advancing from the 1500m repechage heats to the repechage quarterfinals. Albie Barlow in the 500m, Adam Hill in the 1000m and Joseph Armstrong in the 1500m all added more valuable World Tour racing to their experience.

Next up for British Royals: Shanghai
With two World Tour weekends now behind them, the full British Royals team will race again at World Tour 4 in Shanghai from 27 to 29 November. Niall Treacy will then continue on alone to World Tour 5 in Beijing from 4 to 6 December, completing the first half of the season. The team will use the next few weeks to take the lessons from Canada into an important block of racing.
