Torvill and Dean Retirement: The End of a Remarkable Era

Yesterday marked the end of a remarkable era in British and international ice skating, as Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean took to the ice for the final performance of their Last Dance tour at their home rink in Nottingham, marking the start of their retirement from ice skating.

On behalf of British Ice Skating, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jayne and Chris on their extraordinary careers. For over four decades, they have captivated audiences around the world with their artistry, athleticism, and innovation.
From their historic gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, where their iconic performance to Ravel’s Boléro redefined the sport, to their ongoing legacy as ambassadors and mentors, Jayne and Chris have left an indelible mark on ice skating.

Their partnership has inspired generations of skaters and brought the beauty of ice dance to millions, both on the competitive stage and through their professional performances and work on Dancing on Ice. They have consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible on the ice, combining technical brilliance with emotional depth and creative vision.
British Ice Skating thanks Jayne and Chris for their unwavering dedication, their pioneering spirit, and the joy they have brought to so many. Their contributions to the sport are immeasurable, and their legacy will continue to influence the world of figure skating for years to come.

British Ice Skating will continue to honour Jayne and Chris' legacy, including the introduction of the Bolero Cup international Ice Dance competition. The inaugural event will take place 5th-6th September 2025 in Sheffield - we hope to see you there!
