Heading to his first Winter Olympic Games Niall Treacy will race in the men's 1000m.
He described his selection as a "feeling like no other I've ever experienced". The 21-year-old said: “It's something I've been dreaming of ever since I started speed skating 13 years ago. Back then I knew this is where I wanted to go and I'm just so proud and more importantly honoured that I’ve been selected.
To qualify for the Games Niall produced a brilliant performance to finish 4th in the 1000m at the third ISU World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary. Skating in his first ever A final he kept pace throughout to finish just off the podium. He finished the World Cup series in 10th in the 1000m.
His exploits on the ice can be followed closely thanks to his YouTube channel BNE Ice that he runs alongside teammate Branden Marshall and brother Ethan.
