British Ice Skating names Short Track ISU World Tour team for the first half of the 2026/27 season

British Ice Skating has confirmed the team selected to represent Great Britain at the opening five events of the 2026/27 ISU Short Track World Tour - the sport's flagship international race series, and the circuit on which the world's fastest short track skaters go head to head each season.

The team was chosen following last week's Performance Selection Event in Nottingham and a selection meeting held on Monday, and will compete across World Tour 1-5, which run from late October through to early December, taking in Canada, Korea and China.

Leading the team is Niall Treacy, who took World Championship bronze in the 1000m in Montreal in March — Great Britain's first short track medal at a World Championships since 2017.

Jon Eley, Performance Director at British Ice Skating, said:

We're really looking forward to getting the World Tour season underway. The team has had a strong summer of training and there's a lot of excitement around this group as we head into the first part of the season.

We have a young team, with a number of athletes set to make their World Tour debuts, which is a great opportunity for them to gain experience at this level. At the same time, we want to build on the momentum and success of last season, and it will be great to see Niall back in World Tour action following his World Championship bronze medal.

It's an exciting group and we're looking forward to seeing how the team develops as we begin this new Olympic cycle towards 2030.

World Tour 1-5

The ISU Short Track World Tour is short track speed skating's flagship international series, staged by the International Skating Union and launched in its current format in 2024. It brings together the world's fastest skaters across a global circuit, with the 2026/27 season made up of seven events in Canada, Korea, China, Poland and the Netherlands.

Short track is the most dynamic racing on ice. Unlike long track speed skating, where skaters race the clock in pairs, short track skaters go head to head in packs on a 111m oval, reaching speeds of more than 45km/h, with overtakes, contact and photo finishes all part of the spectacle. Athletes contest individual races over 500m, 1000m and 1500m, alongside team relays, and results across the series count towards the ISU World Ranking.
