We’re excited to share that we will soon be launching the new Ice Dance test structure. This update has been carefully designed to give skaters the best possible pathway for development, with clearer progression, improved support, and opportunities that reflect the evolving nature of our sport.
The transition to the new structure will take place on 1st September 2025. From this date, all Ice Dance tests will automatically move to the new format.
We understand that some skaters may wish to take their test under the current structure before it is retired. If this is the case, you must submit a request to the British Ice Skating office at least one week before your planned test date. A final cut-off date will also be in place — from April 2026 all Ice Dance tests will be delivered under the new structure only.
Over the coming weeks, we will share further details of the new structure, including clear guidance to help skaters, coaches, officials, and clubs understand how it will work in practice. Our aim is to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for everyone involved — and to reassure you that we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Below you can find the new Ice Dance Test Manual, as well as a chart explaining how skaters' existing test awards will be moved from the old structure to the new.

To apply to be awarded the new competitive test level, skaters just need to complete this quick form providing their current level and the relevant results link. (Please note that this is not an automatic process and it may take some time as we manually process these applications.)
If you have any questions at any stage, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Your feedback and input are always welcome, and we value the role you play in making our skating community so strong.
