Cornelius Kersten will be the first male long track speed skater to represent Team GB in 30 years when he steps out on to the ice in Beijing.
He’ll be skating at the National Skating Oval in three distances, the 500m, 1000m & 1500m. He repeatedly smashed records throughout the qualifying World Cups breaking British records in every distance he skated. His 9th place finish at the Norway World Cup was the best result for a British speed skater in 36 years.
The European Speed Skating Championships that took place from 14th -16th served as a perfect warm-up for the Winter Olympic Games. A fourth-place in the 1000m was the best-ever result by a Brit at that competition.
Cornelius will be fuelled by coffee throughout the Games, he runs a successful coffee business alongside his girlfriend and fellow Team GB long track speed skater Ellia Smeding.
