British Ice Skating supports social media boycott

British Ice Skating will join other governing bodies, sports clubs and broadcasters in a social media boycott this weekend.

We support the action, led by football, in highlighting that social media companies need to do more to eradicate online hate and ensure all platforms are free from abuse, racism and harassment.

BIS will not post any content to its channels on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for the duration of the boycott period from 3pm on Friday 30th April until 11.59pm on Monday 3rd May.

Michelle Draper, Chief Executive Officer, said: “We stand alongside the sporting community in sending this important message that social media companies need to act. They have a responsibility to make sure their platforms can’t be used as tools to spread abuse, racism and hatred.

Our sport is proud to join this action to highlight the fact that more needs to be done to eradicate online abuse. We hope this powerful collective message from across the sporting world will bring about changes that are badly needed.”
