Important Update: British Figure Skating Championships 2026

As members may be aware, the British Ice Skating October Qualifier for Singles & Pairs was unfortunately cancelled last week due to a significant power outage in Sheffield.
Since the cancellation, we have been working hard to find the fairest possible solution regarding qualification for this season’s British Figure Skating Championships that ensures no skaters are disadvantaged due to these unavoidable circumstances.
Following detailed discussions with the Singles and Pairs Technical Advisory Committee, we have made changes to Singles and Pairs skaters’ qualification for the 2026 British Figure Skating Championships. For this season only:
ALL Singles and Pairs skaters* who competed at the March or August Qualifier, or who were entered to compete and had not withdrawn before the first segment of their event at the October Qualifier, will be eligible to enter the 2026 British Figure Skating Championships.
To enable us to accommodate the additional entry numbers, in some Singles categories with 2 competitive segments (Short Program and Free Skating), not all competitors who compete in the Short Program event will advance to the Free Skating. Qualification to the Free Skating will be based on the placement after the Short Program. Specifically:
Advanced Novice Girls: top 24 ranked skaters after the Short Program will qualify for the Free Skating. Junior Women: top 18 ranked skaters after the Short Program will qualify for the Free Skating.
Senior Women: top 12 ranked skaters after the Short Program will qualify for the Free Skating. Senior Men: top 12 ranked skaters after the Short Program will qualify for the Free Skating. Due to eligible entry numbers, all Advanced Novice Boys and Junior Men will compete in both Short Program and Free Skating.
The British Championships are an important event for our skating community, and our first priority has been ensuring that no skater’s chance to qualify is impacted by circumstances outside of their control. We recognise that accommodating the expanded entry numbers will require some compromises to our standard event operations, but we hope the skating community will come together behind this approach, with a shared focus on what matters most: giving skaters an equitable chance to compete.
We are committed to ensuring the Championships remain a high-quality and meaningful experience for everyone involved, and we will do everything reasonably possible to preserve the standard of competition and event delivery expected of a British Championship.
Due to these outlined changed, please note that the previously published Announcement and Technical Information for the 2026 British Figure Skating Championships now require amendment. Updated versions will be published soon on our website and the event’s Sportity Channel. A provisional event outline for the Championships can be found below - further schedule details will also be published soon.
We recommend following the event’s Sportity channel (password: BIS_FSC_2026) to ensure you receive all future event updates.
*Please note that there have been no changes to the qualification process for Ice Dance – all information outlined in the previously released Announcement and Technical Information is still accurate for Ice Dance competitors.
