British Skaters set to take Calgary by storm at the Junior Figure Skating World Championships!

This week marks the start of the ISU Junior World Championships which are being held in Calgary, Canada. Representing Great Britain will be Alexa Severn (Women’s Singles), Edward Appleby (Men’s Singles), Phebe Bekker & James Hernandez (Ice Dance) and Ashlie Slatter & Atl Ongay-Perez (Ice Dance).


British Champions, Phebe Bekker & James Hernandez are set to improve on their 10th place at last season’s Junior Worlds after an astronomical season, cruising into a 4th place finish in the Junior Grand Prix final! With a podium finish in their sights, they discussed: “Having competed alongside the best in the world at the Junior Grand Prix Finals we are more motivated than ever to show everything we’ve worked on over the past months in preparation for the last event of the season in Calgary!”


Edward Appleby is also set to compete at his 4th Junior Worlds after a blistering season where he won the Volvo Junior Cup and made his senior debut at a Grand Prix. Hoping to improve on his 20th place finish at last year’s Junior Worlds said: “Being able to represent Great Britain for a fourth time at Junior Worlds is a dream come true! This season has so far been a successful one for me and I’m looking forward to taking that confidence onto the ice at Worlds!”


Junior Women’s British Champion Alexa Severn, who recently competed in Gdansk at the ISU Junior Grand Prix will be making her worlds debut. She commented “I am extremely excited to be making my debut at Junior Worlds this season. Skating in Calgary with a crowd will be so much fun and I can’t wait to get out there and perform my program!”


Ashlie Slatter & Atl Ongay-Perez, who were the silver medallist at the British Championships commented: “Debuting at Junior Worlds this year has been goal we have worked hard to achieve, and a dream come true. We’re excited to be on the worlds stage, and we hope to learn and enjoy the experience whilst leaving it all on the ice”.
