British Royals begin World Tour season in Vancouver
The British Royals begin their 2026/27 ISU Short Track World Tour campaign in Vancouver this weekend, with seven skaters racing at the historic Pacific Coliseum from 23 to 25 October.
It is a fitting place to begin a new Olympic cycle. The event marks the return of international short track speed skating to Vancouver for the first time since the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and it opens a run of five World Tour stops that takes the team through Montreal, Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing before the end of the year.
How the weekend works
Qualifying rounds across all distances take place on Friday, with the finals sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Great Britain are also entered in the mixed relay and the men's relay, with both relay teams to be selected on the day.

Leading the line
Niall Treacy returns to the World Tour as a World Championship medallist. He took bronze in the 1000m at the World Championships in Montreal in March, Great Britain's first short track medal at a World Championships since 2017, and he races the 500m and 1500m on Saturday before the 1000m on Sunday.
Around him is a young group, with a number of skaters set to make their World Tour debuts this season.
“We have a young team, with a number of athletes set to make their World Tour debuts, which is a great opportunity for them to gain experience at this level. At the same time, we want to build on the momentum and success of last season, and it will be great to see Niall back in World Tour action following his World Championship bronze medal.”
Jon Eley, Performance Director, British Ice Skating, speaking when the team was announced
Who are the British Royals?
On the World Tour, teams race under their own team identities, and Great Britain compete as the British Royals. The name reflects the United Kingdom's long association with royalty, and the tradition, prestige and excellence the team aims to bring to the ice. In Vancouver they share the ice with the host nation's Canadian Ice Maples, the reigning Crystal Globe winners.

How to follow
Racing will be shown live on the ISU's official YouTube channel, Skating ISU, with live results on the ISU website. Follow British Ice Skating on social media for updates from Vancouver throughout the weekend.
What comes next
The team stays in Canada for World Tour 2 at the Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal from 30 October to 1 November, before the tour moves on to Seoul (20 to 22 November), Shanghai (27 to 29 November) and Beijing (4 to 6 December).
