MATT GARDNER

I have been working with the National Ice Centre as an Ice Sport Team Leader for the last 3 years; in this time, I have also acted as the Manger on Duty/Decision maker for the build frequently gaining experience in areas like customer relations, decision making, writing and reviewing documents including, risk assessments and standard operating procedures.

Before retiring as a speed skater, I was on the SSPP for 7 years, gaining a vast knowledge for the sport, and now, through learning to referee, I continue to learn about the ever changes rules and regulations of the sport.

With the NIC, I also ran our first short track speed skating camps in May and August; I aim to continue to run these camps over the coming months and years with the main aim of increasing participation in ice sports, particularly short track, improving the quality of short track in the UK and giving our current skaters more ice time to be able to learn, grow and exercise.

My aim when working with BIS will be to assist in any way possible as outlined in the committee responsibilities. I would also like to assist in the growth and development of short track speed skating in the UK, working with BIS, the ISU and our home clubs to gain attraction for our sports and increase participation, in turn helping the clubs to afford more ice, get access to better equipment and thrive within our sport.
