ALISTAIR WILSON

POSITION STANDING FOR:

BIS Board

Vacancy: Nominated Director - Ice Dance

CANDIDATE STATEMENT:

I am standing for re-election as Nominated Director for Dance, a position I have held since 2022, and I believe my experience, commitment and track record make me well suited to continue serving members in this role.

My background in the sport runs deep. I am a Championship Judge, Referee and Technical Controller in Ice Dance, and a National Judge in Synchro and Singles, with additional knowledge of Short Track and Long Track. I have officiated at numerous British Championships and regularly support clubs with grassroots competitions such as Solo Dance, giving me a close understanding of the sport at every level, from club to elite. I follow ISU and international competition closely and keep my technical knowledge current.

My Board experience is equally relevant. I previously chaired the Dance Committee and served for six years as BIS's Board Technical Director, responsible for running all BIS events and the Test System, giving me a practical, commercial understanding of how these core functions operate. As Nominated Director for Dance, and as part of the Board that developed the current BIS Strategic Plan, I have gained a thorough understanding of BIS's administration, governance, Articles, General Rules and policies, along with the organisation's commercial realities and profit centres.

Outside the sport, I have been a company director for over 40 years across International Trade, Financial Planning, Healthcare and Estate Management. This has given me a broad understanding of how organisations and boards function, strong governance discipline grounded in standards such as the UK Sport Code for Sports Governance, and the interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders at every level. I am a calm, rational decision-maker, a good listener able to see multiple sides of an issue, and someone who works collaboratively with colleagues towards practical solutions.

Looking ahead, I remain fully committed to the vision, mission and objectives of the BIS Strategic Plan, which I helped create and which I believe remain entirely valid. My priority for a further term is turning that plan into tangible progress. On membership, I want a sharper focus on retention, particularly among younger skaters, through wider promotion of disciplines like Synchro, Shadow Skating and Show Skating, and better pathways into adult skating for the majority of skaters who will not progress into the World Class Programme. Organisationally, I want our recent restructuring to translate into streamlined processes and a genuinely improved member experience, including a long-overdue overhaul of our website and better integration with Sportity. I will keep pushing for data-driven development pathways for young skaters, better use of our free-ice access for skills camps, and a transparent, planned approach to investing BISs' profits and external funding in members and their development. I also want the Board to communicate more openly and regularly with members, who fund and own this Association and deserve full visibility of its activities.

I am passionate about this sport and about serving its members, and I would welcome the opportunity to continue that work on the Board.
