INGEBORG MARIA ROBINSON
'Miss Dorn'
10th September 1928 - 2nd November 2025
Born in Munich, Germany, Ingeborg "Inge" Robinson began skating at the age of six. Her remarkable talent was evident almost immediately, and she soon became one of the most promising young skaters in the country. Skating at a level that placed her firmly on course for the Olympic Games. But in the years of rebuilding after the Second World War, German athletes were not permitted to compete, and the chance to fulfil the Olympic dream she had prepared for with such dedication was lost.
Instead, she joined Holiday On Ice in 1952, becoming the principal soloist and touring the world. While on tour she met James "Jim" Robinson, later marrying him in Saigon in 1960.
Shortly after, they settled in Jim's hometown Blackpool, where she became the leading lady of the show Ice Parade (now known as HOT ICE) at the Pleasure Beach, later serving as company manager in the 1990s.
A passionate coach, she trained many skaters including her son Paul, attending the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympic Games with him. At the 1988 Games, she had been the free-skating coach for four of the competing skaters - an exceptional achievement. Her love for coaching never faded; she continued teaching on the ice until she was 84 years old.

In 2007, her lifelong dedication to the sport was honoured when she received the Joyce Taylor Award from the British Ice Teachers Association for her services to coaching
Inge also shared her love of the ice with her granddaughters Jessica and Jasmine, taking them for their very first steps on the ice.
Inge's life was defined by artistry, resilience, and a profound commitment to the world of figure skating. Her legacy lives on in the many skaters and generations she inspired
