SYNCHRO DEVELOPMENT MEETINGS
INFORMAL SYNCHRO SESSIONS FOR COACHES, JUDGES AND SKATERS
Synchro Development Meetings can be hosted at any rink by any coaches and these meetings should take the following format. (They will be likely to be mainly geographically influenced).
To set the process in motion the hosting coach should contact Judy or a member of the Synchro Technical Committee, Noel, Sandra, Cyril, Jane or Graham and they will arrange the judges paper work, certificates and reports.
Coaches may invite as few or as many teams/rinks as they wish - either on a first come first serve basis or by invitation only. David McGrouther of Altrincham and Amanda Hembrow of Sheffield have both hosted an event and would I am sure offer guidance to others based on their own experiences.
Teams should attend representing a category as far as possible but as Age/Numbers/Cross overs and Levels are the main problem area for coaches and these coaches often have great programmes on the go but are compromised by circumstance, they may bring partial teams and made up groups etc as follows:
There may be team members out of the required age group
There may be teams with not quite enough in them
There may be teams with more cross over than normally allowed
There may be teams which do not meet the required level criteria.
Practise dress may be used
These "Meetings" really are informal and to encourage the synchro community to have opportunities to interact as well as develop their skills.
Entry fees to these "Meetings" should be minimal and the Host is just responsible for raising enough funds to pay for the ice and cover judges expenses. This can be done in a variety of ways - One way is to simply work out the cost of ice and any judges expenses and divide it up between all of those in attendance, or charge spectators rather than the teams. A great way is to see if your rink would sponsor a "Meeting" then if you have local judges there may be no costs at all.
The teams will not compete against each other – they will present their programmes as far as they are able and will be judged on their own merit. Certificates will be issued to each participating team indicated areas that have been performed with merit. Hosts are asked to provide A4 clip frames for these certificates.
Reports will be issued to coaches and a round table meeting with the judges and coaches will take place after the event if there is time. So far these meetings have proved to be very useful.
1. If judges are due to judge at a competition they will not attend a "Meeting" after the closing date of that event.
2. If any teams representing Novice/Junior or Senior categories join in with these informal "Meetings" feed back will be copied to the Performance Director and the technical committee will have approved this in the normal way as per the code of conduct ruling.

Synchronized skating offers skaters, of all ages and abilities, the opportunity to work as a team. Forming a synchronized skating team in your club/rink will take many more of your skaters to competition level, offer group work for your coaches and make ice time more viable for your club/managment, whilst encouraging a team spirit which is vital in the development of young people.
If you would like to know more about synchronized skating, whether you are a Coach, a Skater, a Parent, a Judge or a Rink Manager - please contact one of your Synchro Technical Committee or myself. Email contact through the NISA ABOUT section of the web site under Technical Committees and Board.
