Aberdeen Linx Ice Arena Statement

Aberdeen Linx Ice Arena Closure
Sk8scotland is extremely concerned about the recent closure of Aberdeen Linx Ice Arena and its serious impact on all users in the region, as well as the further implications for ice skating in Scotland. In recent weeks, Sk8scotland has made representations both to Aberdeen City Council leaders, all political parties within the council, as well as to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire MSPs and MPs. Meetings have also been held.
In addition, Sk8scotland has been invited to advise a group of independent business and technical experts concerned to ensure the continued opening of the facility for the benefit of the entire community of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and for the sport as a whole in Scotland.
The group is entirely focused on offering a technical and economically viable alternative to the council’s proposals to mothball the rink for an 18 month period, whilst ensuring a new ice programme will provide maximum opportunity and development pathways for all users including figure, dance, synchro, adult, and hockey as well as public, youth, schools, university/colleges, and disability customers.
With a completely fresh approach, probably based on a not-for-profit operating model, and more appropriate timetabling, the ice4all group is confident that a successful and economically viable facility can be created for the benefit of the whole community.
