Best Performance for British Ice Skating at the 2006 Olympics Since 1994

6th March 2006

Congratulations to all our athletes who competed at the recent 2006 Winter Olympic Games in producing the best ever performances on behalf of British Ice Skating since the success of Torvill and Dean and Nicky Gooch at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer. Results were as follows:

Jon Eley 5th ñ 500m Short Track

Sarah Lindsay 8th ñ 500m Short Track

John and Sinead Kerr 10th - Ice Dance

Joanne Williams 19th ñ 500 m Short Track

Paul Stanley 19th ñ 1000 m Short Track

All our skaters were not only a credit to the Association, but also to the wider British Skating Community in the manor in which they conducted themselves during the Games and particular credit must be given to John and Sinead and Sarah for their commentaries and interviews on both the BBC and Eurosport. All athletes now move on to their respective World Championships and we hope that you all now remain focused and concentrate on the job ahead to ensure that we finish the season on a high and are well placed for continued success from the start of the 2006-07 season.

NISA has already committed to a mission statement that commits to sending 8 figure skaters and 7 Short Track athletes to the 2010 Olympic Games to be held in Vancouver, Canada.
