Jon Eley and Sarah Lindsay get their International Winter Olympic Season off to a Winning Start.

Yesterday in The Hague, Netherlands, Jon Eley and Sarah Lindsay took Gold medals in their favoured distance the 500m at the opening competition of the International season. Although this competition was used as a warm up competition in preparation for the Asia World Cups in two weeks time the standard of the competition was good, with four of the top 10 men’s teams and 4 of the top 12 ladies teams taking part.

The other members of the GB team also showed their good early season form, with the Men taking Gold again in the 5000m Relay Final; the silver medal went to Germany who are ranked one place above Great Britain in the World rankings.
Stuart Horsepool Performance Director said ‘This is a pleasing result, none of our skaters were rested for this competition, both Sarah and Jon as sprinters are at their very best when fully rested, so although this is the early part of our competition season both are skating well with a lot more to come later in the season.’

The team travel to Asia next weekend for the first two World Cups of the season 17th – 20th September in Beijing, then onto Seoul, South Korea 24th – 27th September.
