IJS Roll Out to NISA Events and Open Competitions NISA Licensed Coach Education
• The NISA Board has already made a public commitment to the roll out of the IJS to all NISA British Championships and NISA Accredited Opens, and to the phasing out of the use of the 6.0 judging system in the UK.
• This roll out process will start with a number of trial events during the 2009-2010 season with the plan to fully introduce IJS at all NISA Accredited Opens and British Championships from the 2010-11 season.
• For a number of years NISA Licensed coaches who have entered skaters into IJS competitions and the British Championships have been involved with ongoing training and development to keep abreast of all the continual changing requirements for IJS. It is very important for the success of the roll out that coaches who are entering skaters into future NISA IJS Accredited Opens and British Championships are fully conversant with the IJS system and keep fully up to date with the information and amendments that are issued to the IJS system by the ISU on 1st July every year.
• The IJS System is here to stay but obviously after nearly 120 years of the 6.0 system it will be many years before the IJS system matures and it will continue to evolve during the foreseeable future.
• With effect from 1st July 2010 (2010-11 season) it will be mandatory for all NISA Licensed coaches who wish to enter skaters into accredited IJS Opens, NISA IJS competitions and NISA Championships in all Figure Skating disciplines to have attended a discipline specific NISA IJS seminar in the twelve months prior to the proposed IJS event to be entered.
• NISA is committed to the professional development of all our licensed coaches and will continue to invest in this area by making available seminars that will be moderated by senior ISU officials from across the world.
• These seminar dates will be published before 30th June each year to allow coaches to plan their training and development requirements.
• IJS coach accreditation will last for a full 12 months.
• For example, a coach who attends an IJS seminar in July will be accredited to enter skaters until the same date 12 months following their attendance at an IJS seminar. If they require to enter skaters after this month, they will be again required to attend a seminar before the end of their twelve month accreditation period.
• If it is more convenient a coach may attend a seminar before the end of their accreditation period finishes.
• This seminar requirement will also be relevant to coaches who wish to take skaters to International Club competitions.
• Foreign based coaches who do not reside in the UK must be registered with the relevant professional body in the country of their residency (for example, in the US the PSA is the recognised professional body).
• Events prior to 1st July 2010 which require IJS coach accreditation are:
> British IJS Synchronized Championships and Competitions – Sheffield 29th – 30th January 2010
> NISA IJS - Lee Valley - 12th – 16th April 2010
