Jenna Sets New Record!

Five times British Senior Ladies Ice Skating Champion, Jenna McCorkell has just set a new standard by winning the coveted Senior title for a record sixth time with an outstanding display in Nottingham this evening 14th Jan 2009. What makes this even more remarkable is that Jenna (22yrs) has won the title in successive years since 2002/03 with the exception of 2005/06 when she didn’t compete due to injury.
With what has been her most successful season thus far in her career the young woman originally from Coleraine in Northern Ireland now travels with UK coach Yuri Bureiko and Belgium coach Silvie De Rijcke to Finland to compete against the best in Europe at the European Championships.
Jenna set a new bench mark last season when she placed a fantastic 7th place in the short programme - 1st place in the technical element score, following the long programme Jenna achieved a life-time best and finished 8th overall in the event. This means for the first time in over 20 years GB can send another female skater to represent their country this year...
The scene is now set for the European Championships and expectations are high, however, Jenna as always remains philosophical...
‘I am very pleased with my performances and results this season and I am enjoying my skating more than ever.’
Yuri Bureiko who is Jenna's UK coach was delighted with her performance:
Jenna did what she had to do to win, in fact she was holding back as she is trying to peak for the European's next week, having said that she was still able to achieve a great score over 50 points ahead of any other British contender.
The final placings were as follows:-
1st JENNA McCORKELL - 142.74
2nd KARLY ROBERSTON - 105.77
3rd KARLA QUINN - 88.15
4th JENNIFER HOLMES - 88.10
In May 2008 Jenna married top Olympic and World skater Kevin Van der Perren.
