Medals and Podium Places Galore for GB Figure Skaters
The 2008-09 season Continues on its upward trend for our GB figures skaters. Over the weekend 14 British skaters performed at various international events, and 7 returned with medals.
Leading the way were Sinead and John Kerr who picked up their second Grand Prix medal of the season finishing third in the Trophee Bompard in Paris.
All eyes now turn to see if the couple have done enough to secure their place in their first Grand Prix Final.
Stacey Kemp and David King returned to the competitive international stage following the long illness of Stacey. The pair competed in the Golden Spin of Zagreb and won a gold medal with a score of 128.53 only 0.6 below their personal best score achieved at the 2008 ISU European Championships. Excellent comeback and start to the season for Stacey and David and they now move on to compete in the ISU Senior Grand Prix at NHK Trophy, Japan in 2 weeks time.
Also competing in the Golden Spin were:
Jenna McCorkell - Senior Ladies, Silver medal with a score of 134.98
Pippa Towler –Green/Phillip Poole - Senior Dance, 6th place with a new Personal Best score of 139.16
Elliot Hilton – Senior Men, 10th Place with a new personal best score of 152.09
Matt Parr - Senior Men, 15th place
A special mention for Penny Coombes who unfortunately had a serious accident during the competition. We wish Penny a speedy recovery and return to competitive skating.
In other competitions, Chrissie Chitwood and Mark Hanretty secured a bronze medal in the Pavel Roman Memorial in Czech Republic with a score of 144.17 – another personal best score.
Thomas Paulson finished 5th in the Crystal Skate in Romania (at the moment we do not have any further details of Thomas skate/score) but the initial feedback is that he skated very well.
Once again, congratulations to all our skaters on some excellent performances and building on what has been a very good start to the International skating season for our Figure Skaters.
Well done to you all.
