John Wilson/MK British Solo Ice Dance Championship 2008

Record numbers have entered this year’s John Wilson/MK British Solo Ice Dance Championship, which will take place in Sheffield from 1st – 3rd July 2008 and this Championship will once again be one of the largest Solo Ice Dance Events in the World.

Solo Ice Dance is not a recognised ISU discipline but NISA took the decision to treat the Event as a major British Championship and therefore this is the first year skaters have not had to compete in qualifying events, but instead qualify only by achieving the required National tests in exactly the same entry format as used for other British Championships.

Solo dance and Couples Open Competitions are still held throughout the year in order that skaters may continue to practice in a competitive environment.

As this is the first year for the new Generic format it was envisaged that numbers may have fallen slightly, but the 120 entries received by NISA indicate that many still continue to practice Solo Ice Dance and NISA confirms that it is committed to the continued development and growth of the discipline.

The inclusion of a third segment in the 2008 Championship has necessitated the Event being held over three days this year and will probably mean that some competitors will skate over two days instead of one due to restrictions to the results system caused by the number and length of the skating days.
