IJS Scotland
We have been asked to clarify the situation regarding the IJS Scottish event which this year will not take place alongside the Sk8scotland Championships/Festival of Skating.
NISA has been very successful in securing an ISU Junior Grand Prix which will take place at iceSheffield on 18th – 21st October. This date was set by ISU, but unfortunately coincides with the date of the Scottish Championships and it is therefore not possible for NISA to provide resources (volunteers, judges, officials etc) for two events. We did hold discussions with Sk8scotland and Dumfries & Galloway Council to explore the possibility of moving the Scottish Championships to a different date prior to the end of 2007 however, this was not possible due to the fact that Dumfries Ice Bowl could not provide the ice time required during this time. Members will be aware, I know, of the intense pressure that figure skating faces from curling in Scotland with regard to ice time. It is most unfortunate that during 2007-08 season we will not be able to hold an IJS event in Scotland and we do hope that we will be able to rectify this situation for future years.
