Senior figure skater Katie Powell returned to her home in Deeside today after her first international competition of the season; The Lombardia Trophy in Sesto San Giovanni, Italy.
The competition which took place from 17th to 20th September was Katie’s first international appearance after breaking her ankle just a few months ago. The 23-year-old has been hard in training to regain full strength and showed she is well on the way to recovery, placing 14th with a score of 101.37 against senior skaters from around the world.
Following the Lombardia Trophy we caught up with Katie as she prepares already for her next big international competition;
“I really enjoyed competing at the Lombardia Trophy. Even though it wasn't a great competition for me, I feel I am getting mentally stronger with each competition. Ten months ago I couldn't imagine I would be competing at an international this soon so I am very grateful for that. I am feeling much stronger in training so I am looking forward to getting back to it as I have a lot to work on before my next competition which will be Coupe de Nice mid October.”
Katie’s next appearance will be in The Coupe de Nice in October where she will skate alongside fellow senior skaters, Karly Robertson, Jamie Wright and skating pair Robynne and Woody.
