Great Britain puts in best ever performance at World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships

The Nottingham Icicles produced Great Britain’s best ever performance at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Zagreb, Croatia at the weekend (Friday 13th and Saturday 14th March). The event, which determines the best junior synchronized skating teams in the world, saw the junior squad finish 14th out of 24 teams.

In the Short Program, the squad scored 31.28 to finish 15th. They finished 13th in the Free Skate, with a score of 69.27. They scored 100.55 overall, putting them in 14th place, just three points behind Team Switzerland.

Nick Sellwood, Chief Executive of the National Ice Skating Association, commented: “Congratulations to the Nottingham Icicles, who put in a good performance at the weekend and represented Great Britain well. This was Team GB’s best ever result at the Junior World Championships, so it’s a fantastic achievement for the whole squad who competed out in Croatia”.

The Icicles, who are the Nottingham Synchronized Skating Academy’s (NSSA) Junior team, claimed the national title at the British Synchronized Skating Championships in January this year, which meant that they qualified to represent Great Britain at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships.

The ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships will take place from 10th to 11th April in Hamilton, Canada.
