GB Short Track prepares for penultimate World Cup event

As the winter sports season heats up, Olympic short track speed skating squad, GB Short Track, heads to Germany for the 5th World Cup series event.

Taking place from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th February in Dresden, Germany; the competition will see the best talent from around the world skating for one of their last shots at World Championship qualification.

For Great Britain we have six men and four women taking to the ice. Among these skaters is recently crowned European Champion Elise Christie. Alongside Christie skating for the women’s titles we have Charlotte Gilmartin who recently took silver at the European Championships; the pair will be joined by younger skaters and promising talents, Kathryn Thompson and Jennifer Pickering.

For the men, a team of six consists of Jack Whelbourne, Richard Shoebridge, Josh Cheetham and Paul Stanley, who recently formed part of the bronze medalling relay team at the 2016 European Championships, as well as squad members Murray Cochrane and Billy Simms.

The skaters will compete in a variety of individual events across distances of 500m-1500m. They will also join forces for the male and female relay races skating a combined distance of 5000m and 3000m respectively.
