The GB Short Track squad have taken time out of their busy schedules to visit several Nottinghamshire schools throughout December and introduce children to the world of short track speed skating.
In January, Nottingham will be host to international short track speed skating event, Starclass 2016, from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th January. Whilst Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public, on Friday over 3000 children from 41 different Nottinghamshire schools will see some of the best talent from Western Europe compete together on the ice.
The school visits form part of the countdown to the international event and introduces the sport to potential sporting stars of the future. Event Manager for Starclass, Stuart Horsepool, said;
“In January thousands of school children will descend on the National Ice Centre to watch our GB Short Track skaters compete on their home turf. The school visits were so well received last year in the lead up to the event we decided to do the same once more.
“The skaters take along with them their medals, show footage of their races and answer any questions the children may have about the sport, as well as autograph signing and photographs. Overall it is a very rewarding few hours.”
Tickets for Starclass 2016 can be purchased online from www.capitalfmarena.com or at the Nottingham Tourism Centre.
