On the ice:
Who inspired you to get onto the ice and at what age?
My family has always been into skating so I started quite young around the age of two or three. My Grandad was a Speed Skater, my Grandma danced in Ice Shows and my brother, Joe Buckland, is also a skater. I guess you could say it’s in my blood.

Penny: I was eight years old and inspired by my family. Skating has been in the family for decades in one way or another, my Great Grandma used to skate on frozen ice ponds and my Mum always wanted to skate but as one of six kids wasn’t able to pursue it.

How long have you been skating together? We went to school together so have known each other for a long time but we started skating together in 2005.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
If I can have three then I’d say winning Bronze at the European Championships in 2014 and the two Olympic Games that Penny and I performed at. We worked for so long to get to that point so to get there was almost surreal but it felt amazing. The Olympics especially were out of this world.

Penny: There have been a few highlights for me but I would say winning Bronze at the Europeans in 2014, skating at the Olympic Games twice (this has always been a dream of mine) and the fact that as a pair Nick and I never let anything knock us back. We have suffered injuries and illnesses but we always come back stronger.

Off the ice:
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Our schedule is pretty hectic so when I get time away from the ice I love to chill as much as possible. I enjoy sitting back and playing video games as well as playing golf when I can.

Penny: Baking! I love baking themed cakes for friends’ birthdays, most recently I made an R2D2 cake. When I’m away I also like watching films and Skyping family. When I’m home I love walking my dog and spending time with family.

One thing you can’t live without?
It would definitely be my iPad. It goes everywhere with me!

Penny: My mum – she is the sweetest person in the world and we Skype as much as possible when I’m away.

Favourite band/music:
I really like Alternative Rock; at the moment my favourite band is 30 Seconds to Mars.

Penny: It completely depends on my mood. If I want to relax it's Classical, if I want to get pumped then Hip Hop. I love Michael Jackson at any time!

Favourite TV/film:
Penny and I are both addicted with Prison Break so I’ve been watching that a lot recently. I also really like The Walking Dead.

Penny: Prison Break – I am addicted to this at the moment.

Fun Fact:
I am a certified scuba diver.

Penny: My Grandad’s Auntie was Martha Tabram, the first victim of Jack the Ripper.
