Yesterday was the first of a two day international short track speed skating competition in Dresden, Germany. The Dresden Invitation Cup is the first international fixture of the season and sees skaters from six nations compete against one another in a variety of distances.
Day one started with the Men’s 1500m race where Jack Burrows, Aydin Djemal, Josh Cheetham and Murray Cochrane found themselves in the finals against skaters from Germany, Poland, The Netherlands and Sweden. Murray led the way for Team GB coming 1st in his group and 14th overall.
Jennifer Pickering, the only female representing Great Britain in the competition, raced through to finals in the 500m where she placed 18th overall. She also joined forces with skaters from other countries later in the day for a mixed entry in the relays.
The last race of the day was the men’s 3000m relay. Josh, Jack, Murray and Jonathan raced together securing 2nd place in their group and coming in with a time of 4.12.177.
Today Jennifer and the boys are back on the ice for the 777m distance and the 5000m relay competing against skaters from Poland, Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Germany and Sweden.
