Coaching at the Cutting Edge - a Seminar for Coaches and Parents

Ice Cool Confidence is organising a Coaches’ Seminar on the 16th September, 9am -5pm, in Northampton.

The John Thorpe Centre Lecture Theatre in Moulton College will welcome ice skating coaches and parents to skaters.

The cost of the event is £45 for the day, with Early-bird tickets available to purchase up until the 27th August 2017.

Speakers from various disciplines are lined up:


  • Mindset (Elizabeth Ryan, Ice Cool Confidence)
  • Prevention and management of injury (Bob Allen, Sollus Osteopathy)
  • Periodisation (being in peak condition right before the big competitions) – Chris Lorkin Head S&C Coach to Northants County Cricket and formerly with Aston Villa and Norwich City
  • Post Activation Potentiation (specially designed warm ups to retain muscle warmth in the last 20 mins before a performance) – Daniel Waddingham, Athletic Development Lead for Swimming, Millfield School
  • Footwear characteristics, implications and considerations for injury (Connor Ratcliffe, Podiatrist and Associate Lecturer in Podiatry at University of Northampton
  • Overtraining and Overreaching – Tim Silvester, Strength and Conditioning Coach (has also presented at the NISA Coaches’ Convention)


Also present will be Josh Brown, 2016 British Junior Men’s Figure Skating Champion and Junior Worlds competitor giving a keynote address from an athlete’s point of view.

The day is aimed at Coaches (of any sport) and parents of athletes who want to know a bit more about the latest techniques in training and strength and conditioning without injury. I

It’s designed to ensure participants can take away what they’ve learned and implement it in their coaching with their own athletes/skaters.
