Skills School

Skills School is a program that has been set up by British Ice Skating and GB Short Track that helps complete the Pathway from Speed Skating Clubs to the Performance Programme.

The Skills School Program aims to develop and enhance athletes' skills and fundamentals of skating.

The Programme is aimed at currently active club skaters regardless of experience and ability.

For 2019 Skills School will have two groups to help to form the pathway leading to the Speed Skating Performance Programme (SSPP) run at the National Ice Centre.

Skills School - Stage 1 - UNDER 11's and NOVICES

  • This program is focused on fundamental movements and speed, agility, and balance.  It will be more fun and games based for those younger participants and those relatively new to the sport.
  • Please note: As this is a British Ice Skating run programme, all participants MUST be valid British Ice Skating members, including Novices.  Becoming a British Ice Skating member does NOT prevent a skater being a Novice.

Skills School - Stage 2 - 11 - 17's (INCLUDING ex-Academy Athletes)

  • This program will be geared towards performance development, with a focus on Skills and Short Track knowledge

Both stages will run simultaneously on the day, and led by two qualified coaches.
