Farrell competed for the Solihull Mohawks club with his two younger brothers before joining the squad in the summer of 2012.

 

During his first season with the squad, Farrell progressed his racing to qualify for his first Junior Europa Cup Finals and also earned an individual spot at the Junior World Championships.

 

Farrell is now looking to build on these results over the next season.

 

ON THE ICE
What is your favourite distance to skate and why? 1000m because it takes tactics, positioning in, and overtaking, all of which make an exciting race.
What element of speed skating do you enjoy the most? Mostly the adrenaline from the speed, and also the speed when overtaking.
What would you consider to be your greatest sporting achievement to date? Being selected for the 2012 Junior World Championships.
What was your highlight of 2011-2012? Coming 8th overall in Star Class.
What is your sporting ambition? To be an Olympic medallist.
What is your favourite skating memory? When I got my qualification time for the Great Britain squad.

OFF THE ICE
Who inspired you most at the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games? David Weir and Mo Farah, just the pure domination they had in their discipline was an inspiration.
Do you do any sports outside of skating?  Football, tennis and badminton.
Who is your sporting hero?  Bradley Wiggins and Roger Federer.
Do you have any sporting family members? Two of my younger brother also skate.
Life after skating:  I’d like to be a physiotherapist/own my own business.

FAVOURITES
Place to race: Probably Melbourne.
Films/TV shows: Mean Machine, Snatch, Forest Gump, Misfits, League of their own.
Band/Music: Wombats, Tinie Tempah, Example, Chase and Status.
Last book read: Bradley Wiggins’ autobiography
Food: Pasta and pizza.
Hobbies: Supporting Birmingham City.
