IJS Entry criteria Singles and dance from July 2010
Qualification & Entry Pathway to 2009/10 NISA British Championships and IJS Events - AMENDED 20TH AUGUST 2009
Solo Dance Series and Solo Dance Championships 2009/2010
The compulsory dances, original dance and free dance programme requirements for the Solo Dance Series and the British Solo Dance Championships 2009/2010 have now been published and can be accessed HERE.
Please note that these criteria only cover the standards that form part of the Solo Dance Championships. It is hoped that Clubs will continue to run solo dance events at other standards and couples events as in previous years. Criteria for these other sections will be published by the individual club, and will follow the criteria from last season. It is hoped that generic criteria for ALL standards, in both Solo dance and Couples dance will be operational from July 2010, moving towards IJS roll out across all events.
As most people will be aware, the Board of NISA made a commitment and priority to move forward and change the Solo Dance Championships to the IJS, as requested by many coaches and skaters at all levels. It was important to give skaters only 1 set of criteria to work to at each level, and hence it was agreed that the requirements for the Solo Dance Series events would match those required for the Championships to be held in July 2010. Unfortunately there are currently no ISU criteria for solo dance, therefore it was necessary to write criteria specifically for this event, including programme criteria for all levels, information regarding levels of difficulty, Scale of values and software to allow the Championships to run under the IJS. This has been a mammoth task and hence the inevitable delay in publication of the Announcement for this season. However, as this has now been produced it will require only minor modifications in future years and can be published much faster. Skaters will also be more aware of the requirements, allowing a more seamless transition from year to year in the future.
The generic criteria have been prepared involving the Technical Director, Dance Technical Committee, Coaching Committee and IJS officials, while keeping in line with the broad Board principles to move to ISU criteria in sections where possible, and to allow a progression from solo dance to couples with the aim of encouraging the development of new couples at all levels. It is acknowledged that these criteria are part of an on-going plan as all events in the UK gradually move to the IJS. Further changes to the entry standards and criteria will be considered after the Championship in July for the following season, but will be based on the same principles. Please note that all programme requirements for both Original Dance and Free Dance are MAXIMUM requirements and skaters are free to choose to skate as few or as many as they prefer according to their ability. There is no deduction for skating less than the maximum requirements.
The named clubs have been selected to host Solo Dance Series events having lodged E1 documentation with NISA and subsequently agreed to participate in the Series. Every Club who had lodged an E1 or notification of date at the time of preparation of this document was invited to participate in the Solo Dance Series. It is hoped that the number of events can be increased in future years, maintaining a spread of venues across the UK and dates running throughout the season until June 2011. Any Club interested in hosting an event in future years will be given opportunity to register interest with NISA shortly.
This change is undoubtedly the biggest for a number of years and, despite the enormity of the task, NISA are excited at the opportunity to move forward into IJS with the Championships 2009/2010 and the roll out of IJS to the Solo Dance Series and hope skaters enjoy the opportunity to be part of this exciting development. We thank everyone involved for their co-operation and wish all skaters the best of luck for the forthcoming season.
Adult Championships
A revised version of the BAC document has now been produced and can be found here, BAC_ENTRY_FORM_2010. NISA would like to apologise for the publication of the wrong couples OD requirements in error and advise skaters that this has now been rectified. The decision has also been taken to add a Gold Free Dance section for dance couples, allowing them to compete without changing programme requirements.
We would ask that any skaters who have downloaded the initial version please destroy it and use the new version, dated December 2009 to prevent any further confusion. Skaters should be aware that all programme requirements are MAXIMUM requirements and there is no deduction should any skater choose not to perform all the elements.
This document has been prepared trying to accommodate skaters who skate Internationally and also those who continue to take tests within the NISA test structure, while also taking into account the Board decisions to use generic criteria wherever possible and the requirement to move this event to the IJS judging system in 2010. It is also designed to cover all levels of ability. Although not possible to incorporate every request, this document will allow as many skaters as possible to be compete in the BAC event.
NISA would like to thank the many adults who have given their time to attend meetings and submit views about the event over the last 9 months. Although varied and on occasions very diverse, each opinion was taken into consideration and an enormous amount of time was spent preparing this document. NISA appreciate and value the Adult Membership and over recent years have worked hard to raise the profile of this event, and look forward to a successful event in Sheffield in February 2010.
The information and details of the newly constructed technical levels for the Solo Dance events will be available very shortly on the NISA website. Those for singles, pairs and dance events are as per ISU documentation.

Pre-planning for IJS Roll Out
In advance of the IJS trial events/events planned for 2009/10 NISA have made the following decisions regarding events to be considered and possibly approved:
In due course, when plans are announced, clubs/rinks approached by NISA must supply the following information before consideration:
• proposed system. i.e. paper, partial paper, full system
• Whether video replay will be used
• Who will be providing the equipment. It is NISA policy that volunteers/NISA panel officials should not be expected to provide equipment.
• Details of all proposed fully trained officials from the NISA IJS panel lists or suitably qualified officials from abroad, to include judges, referee, technical panels, results officials, data operators, video operators and video cutters. Obviously data and video only applies if the system requires them.
NISA will contact all officials directly once the event is authorised to advise of what they are required to do in terms of pre-event planning and post event feedback following the event and any requirements during the event. Wherever possible, NISA aim to send representatives to these events.
All events will be run under a NISA IJS Permit operating as per the current RJS Permit system
It was also agreed that all training in any IJS area at these events or separately would be in conjunction with or via NISA to ensure consistent standards across all disciplines and areas of the UK.
