Job Description
• Coaching elite athletes to international standard to achieve the agreed annual NISA WCP targets, in particular for annual World/ European championships, and for the Winter Olympics.
• Identify and select athletes for the NISA WCP Performance and Potential programmes, in line with agreed criteria, delivery agreed NISA performance target goals.
• Set annual performance targets for each individual athlete on the WCPP and then implement effective and regular review and monitoring processes to measure progress.
• Develop and structure high quality individual/ squad training programmes which are understood and adopted by athletes and coaches.
• Manage the individual and squad sports science and sports medicine programmes, working closely with staff that are supporting the squad.
• Manage the individual and squad competition programmes at home and abroad, and attend international championships and competitions when required.
• Attend domestic and overseas squad training/ preparation camps when required.
• Contribute to the review and development of the WCP, including the production of written reports and plans as requested.
• Closely manage the work of the Performance and Development officer particularly in the areas of:
Club Development
Grass Roots Programmes
• Advise, manage and coach coaches who are working or aspiring to work with elite athletes.
• Working with club coaches to ensure that future WCP skaters are recruited and that there is a seamless path to the national squad programme.
• Work with the National Coach Certification Programme to develop best practise amongst coaches, both within and outside skating, to provide a high quality environment in working toward the success of British short track speed skating
• Liaise with the Director of Skating on a regular basis and keep him well informed regarding all aspects of the WCP for Short Track Speed Skating. Refer day-to-day policy matters for discussion and agreement.
• Liaise with personal coaches and parents as appropriate regarding all aspects of the NISA Short Track Speed programme.
Liaise with members of and report to the World Class Steering Group
• Attend meetings relevant to the role, including… WCP Steering Group, Short Track Speed Committee etc
• Contribute to the annual review of the WCP, including the production of an annual report and operational plans for the following year.
• Representing NISA as necessary at external events including National Coaching Conferences
• Taking responsibility, as required, for National Coaching Policy and Development
• Such duties as may be reasonably required by the Director of Skating and General Secretary to ensure the overall objectives of the WCP for Short Track Speed Skating are met.
