Solo Dance – Scale of Values and Levels of Difficulty

NISA have now released the Scale of Values (SoV) for the required elements for both the Solo Original Dance and the Solo Free Dance. This SoV will be used at the British Adult Championships, the second solo dance pilot to be held as part of the Alexandra Palace Solo Dance Series event and at the British Solo Dance Championships.

Information regarding clarification of the Levels of Difficulty has also been published, and again will be used at the events listed above.

It should be noted that all of this information has been written and adapted purely for these events and that, due to the enormity of this project, it will remain a document in progress and a working document for the forseeable future. Changes are not anticipated prior to the BAC event, but the document will be reviewed following this event.

The publication of this information provides the final link in allowing the solo dance events to use the IJS, not withstanding any software issues which arise at the event. NISA are therefore happy to confirm that all events at the BAC (excepting the exhibition events) and the Solo Dance Championships will use the IJS.

A guidance for judges’ document relating to Grade of Execution of elements will be issued very shortly and will also be published on the NISA website.

Adult Championships

A revised version of the BAC document has now been produced and can be found here, BAC_ENTRY_FORM_2010. NISA would like to apologise for the publication of the wrong couples OD requirements in error and advise skaters that this has now been rectified. The decision has also been taken to add a Gold Free Dance section for dance couples, allowing them to compete without changing programme requirements.

We would ask that any skaters who have downloaded the initial version please destroy it and use the new version, dated December 2009 to prevent any further confusion. Skaters should be aware that all programme requirements are MAXIMUM requirements and there is no deduction should any skater choose not to perform all the elements.

This document has been prepared trying to accommodate skaters who skate Internationally and also those who continue to take tests within the NISA test structure, while also taking into account the Board decisions to use generic criteria wherever possible and the requirement to move this event to the IJS judging system in 2010. It is also designed to cover all levels of ability. Although not possible to incorporate every request, this document will allow as many skaters as possible to be compete in the BAC event.

NISA would like to thank the many adults who have given their time to attend meetings and submit views about the event over the last 9 months. Although varied and on occasions very diverse, each opinion was taken into consideration and an enormous amount of time was spent preparing this document. NISA appreciate and value the Adult Membership and over recent years have worked hard to raise the profile of this event, and look forward to a successful event in Sheffield in February 2010.

The information and details of the newly constructed technical levels for the Solo Dance events will be available very shortly on the NISA website. Those for singles, pairs and dance events are as per ISU documentation.
